hey all,
considering selling my old Braillenote.
It's a classic BT style keyboard with 18 cells of braille.
The rear compactFlash card is broken, due to missing or bent pins, but otherwise it's in perfect working order. It is running Keysoft 7.0 with an SMA to 7.2 available if you repair the compactFlash slot. How much would be a reasonable price for this unit, and be honest about what you say.
If i like the pricing i'd include the adaptor and one CF card for backup and upgrade purposes.

this unit retales around 4000 dollars, 500 is what i'd accept for a voicenote, not a unit with a display

not expecting that, just 500 seems a little low for only one component not being functional. last i checked cf slots weren't worth over 500 bucks

No, but a repair from HW for flat rate will probably be in the $500 range itself at a minimum.

My problem is I feel the BrailleNote itself is awfully clunky and outdated, although I feel this way with practically any note taking device.
I'd much rather run a netbook and a 12 or 18 cell Bluetooth display with it or wait for the IPod Touch supporting braille displays, or even go with a Nokia N86or some such, that phone new costs $400, has gps and all that, with KNFB reader and Talks r MS you seem to be paying $1200 to $1500. For a BrailleNote you pay more than that just for the device and then you have to add cards and gps units and such.
Is there any other type of storage device on the BrailleNote, like SD Card slot or is this slot the only way to add memory to the device? If it is than I'd say $500 to $700 seems fair to me, higher if there is a different way to add storage so you strictly speaking, don't need the broken card slot.

I'd say $700. You can get a PCMCIA adaptor that will let you use a flash card in the braillenote's PCMCIA slot. THe issue I have with the old braillenote is there's no USB port so you have to use it as a serial display. I've had horrible luck with USB to serial adaptors, and new laptops don't come with Serial ports.
